-VERB-
A verb is a
word that tells what a person or thing does:
For
example:
The sun shines
The baby cries
That man was hanged
That student was praised
Diamonds are beautiful
I feel nervous
That man is alive
There are
two kind of verbs:
1.Lexible
Verbs - Action words with meaning:
Laugh, talk,
sing, dance, give, win, shake, jump, walk, listened, saw, wrote, watched, went,
etc.
2.Function
Verbs – Action words without any meaning of their own. These are used to
help lexible verbs state when a certain action has happened:
am, is, was,
be, being, have, do
For
example:
- Suhaila is a girl.
- She is studying at the University of
California.
- (‘is’ helps ‘studying’ to show us that
Suhaila is still studying at the university now)
The most
important parts of a verb in English are
